Shellsburg American Legion Fish Fry set for Oct. 27

The Shellsburg American Legion Post 166 will be having their annual Fall Fish Fry on Friday, Oct 27 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. The meal includes: All the fish you can eat, baked potato, salad bar, juice and coffee (DINE IN ONLY). The cost for Adults is $10, Children 5 - 12 is $6 and 4 and under is Free. Lee and Marlene Overton to Celebrate 60th Anniversary

Lee and Marlene Overton will celebrate 60 years of marriage on November 2nd. They were married at the Dysart Methodist Church in 1957. Pink Heals Vinton: Many sign truck dedicated to those who have faced disease

The line of fire trucks rolling through Vinton sirens blaring shortly after 2 p.m. on Saturday was not an emergency, but a mission of hope and love that is part of a nationwide effort to bring comfort, encouragement and hope to those experiencing difficult illnesses.

Adeline Horst Named to 2017 BJU Symphony Orchestra

Adeline Horst of Urbana was recently named to the 2017 Bob Jones University Symphony Orchestra (BJUSO). Horst is a Freshman majoring in English. The goal of the BJUSO, one of two orchestras at BJU, is to inspire artistic excellence in performance as a display of God's glory and His gifts to man. Auditions are open to all students in the University.

Jadin Hennings awarded 2017-18 School of Education scholarship

Jadin Hennings of Dysart, IA (52224), has received the Sharon Richman Elementary Education Scholarship from the Iowa State University School of Education for the 2017-18 academic year. Hennings is studying elementary education at Iowa State. The Iowa State University College of Human Sciences and its academic departments, which includes the School of Education, awarded more than $1.

VS FFA officers learn teamwork at summer retreat

By: Shelby McDonald, Co-Reporter On July 17th - 19th, the Vinton-Shellsburg Officer team made a trip to Clear Lake for officer retreat. Getting up there later Monday evening so they could help set up camp, eat, and still get come time in for are first lesson. Having team time helps a lot so officers can plan for the year and set goals for themselves, the team, and the chapter while still getting in time for fun and helping build a bond between the officer team.

Post Prom Committee pie fund-raiser begins

The Vinton-Shellsburg Post Prom Committee pie sale is under way. The group is selling apple, cherry and pumpkin pies for $12 each. VSHS juniors are being asked to sell at least 5 pies each. The ordering deadline is Nov. 6. Click on the order form to print it.  

FFA members continue sharing animals at Garrison Fun Day

By: Franki Evans, Co-Reporter, VS FFA Garrison Fun Day took place July 8th, 2017 and our chapter took multiple animals and a handful of FFA members helped. The members who participated were Jordan Pattee, Jordan Cantrell, Eric Henkle, Wes Haefner, Tia Burke, Morgan White, Grant Ries, Weston Bierschenk, and Brianna Lundvall. The animals at the petting zoo include 2 mini donkeys, llama, 2 goats, 2 sheep, and bunnies.

Hennings selected for 2018 national intercollegiate honor band

Kassie Hennings of Dysart was one of 12 Wartburg College studentsselected to perform with the prestigious Iowa Collegiate Honor Band at the Iowa Music Educator's Conference on Saturday, Nov. 19. The concert begins at 2 p.m. in the Nevada High School auditorium and is free and open to the public.Hennings plays trombone. "This band is made up of the best of the best college players at Iowa colleges and universities," said Craig Hancock, Wartburg director of bands.
